Qualitative research, software development, and data integrity
for labs, firms, and reporters
Consulting
Our engagements begin with understanding the problem. Through interviews, surveys, and on-site observation, we study how documents and records move through your work, where friction accumulates, and what outcomes a better system would need to produce. These findings stand on their own as a written deliverable, and they inform any development or integration work that follows.
Project Development
Once the problem is understood, we build. Our work includes digitization pipelines, document processing systems, and the data infrastructure that surrounds them. When an engagement calls for an AI component, we can develop and run solutions on dedicated local hardware, or work within your existing infrastructure when that is the better fit. We iterate with you as the system takes shape, and we stay involved through integration and early use, so that the software becomes part of the work rather than a separate product to be adopted.
Collaboration
Where the work permits, we conduct it in the open. Software produced during engagements can be released under permissive licenses when clients wish to contribute to shared infrastructure, and methodological findings can be developed into peer-reviewed publications when the work advances a question of general interest. We maintain active partnerships with academic, legal, and journalistic institutions, and we welcome engagements that benefit from those connections. Client confidentiality is preserved as a matter of course, and any disclosure of methods, findings, or software occurs only with explicit client agreement.
